During these uncertain times it is more important than ever to take care. Take care of our families, loved ones, neighbors, and of course our own minds and bodies. When we are stuck at home out of a routine (and trying to find a new one) it can feel daunting to find space for exercise in the midst of figuring out how to work from home with new “co-workers,” suddenly being responsible for your children’s education, or simply fighting off the deep dark hole of loneliness. Above all else, let me encourage you to cling to Christ, our unchanging gracious savior. Also, taking care of your mind and body each day does not have to be complicated. Here are a few tips and resources to encourage you to move each day (or most days).
1. MAKE IT FUN!
Try something new, be it a new route on your walk, interval training, or even a dance fitness class (hey, no mirrors or a big scary room…you really CAN dance like no one in watching;)
2. KEEP IT SIMPLE & PLAN AHEAD.
The best way to execute a great efficient workout is to make a plan for it. Choose what you are going to do the night before, or if you’re like me (I love a good visual) write down what you will do over the next few days. Maybe even prep your space ahead of time giving yourself fewer excuses to avoid this important part of your day ☺
3. GET YOUR HEART RATE UP.
You didn’t think I was going to skip this part right? Find an activity where you can get your heart rate up to where it is difficult to carry on a full conversation. This doesn’t mean going out and running wind sprints in your street. You could be walking at a brisk pace of an extended period of time, or even working in short bursts while interval training.
4. JOIN A GROUP. STAY CONNECTED.
Grab a buddy, jump on FaceTime or set up a Zoom meeting and workout together. Or simply hold one another accountable!
5. ASK FOR HELP.
Need help getting started or have more questions? I would love to help!
